Frank Cohen Joins the Rath Team

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tenor and Bass Trombonist Frank Cohen moved to New York City at the age of 18 to attend the Manhattan School of Music, awarded with a full scholarship for both his Bachelors and Masters degrees.

 

Frank has now firmly planted himself in New York City’s music community. He is a multi-GRAMMY and Latin-GRAMMY winning trombonist, credited with being one of the most versatile, for his ability to navigate and perform various complex styles and genres of music. Frank works with many of the biggest names and ensembles in music today, and is in high demand for performances, tours, recordings, and clinics all over the world.

 

Frank can currently be seen playing lead trombone/soloist with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and is the trombonist and soloist with Willie Colon, and High and Mighty Brass Band. 

 

As a freelancer, Frank has worked with (Not limited to) Jay Z, Aretha Franklin, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Mingus Big Band, Galactic, Ray Chew, Israel Houghton, Shirley Caesar, Muse, Hall and Oats, Chucho Valdes, A$AP Ferg, The Roots, Jon Bellion, Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Brasstracks, Lucky Chops, Too Many Zooz, Rufus Reid, Paquito D’Rivera, Candido Camero, Bobby Sanabria, Tito Puente Jr., Tim Hagans, Feist, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, The Late Shows with Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman, and many others… 

 

In addition to music, Frank holds a third degree black belt in Taekwondo, is an avid Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan, loves his dog, trying new restaurants, and traveling. He plays a Rath R2 Tenor, and a Rath R9 Bass Trombone exclusively.
