Exploring the plurality of sonic environments is Nick Adema’s forte. Using the modest nature of the slide to express his musical vigour, Nick is one of the most versatile trombonists coming out of Canada. Hailing from the nation’s capital Ottawa, Nick quickly came onto the scene as a curious mind who embraced spontaneity and playfulness in his music.

Nick completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, where he quickly became a busy sideman and recorded on several jazz albums such as “Alyssa Giammaria: Moments”, “UTJO: Embargo”, “Thomas Steele 10tet”, and others. While in Canada, Nick has played in a multitude of the country’s top jazz festivals and clubs, in cities such as Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa. He currently has three recording projects under his name, his “Starting Point” EP, his “demiLAN” full-length album, and “New Roots” which is a co-led project by the Adema Manoukas Octet.

Nick has had many prestigious awards and accolades provided to him, such as the Holland Scholarship, the Albert and Wilhelmine scholarship, the Tim O’Hara Jazz Scholarship, Music Fest Nationals: National Arts Center: the Best Brass Player Scholarship, a member of the prestigious Ottawa Youth Jazz Summit, among other accolades. Nick is currently exploring Europe, as he is currently based in Amsterdam working towards his next large project.

“I chose Rath trombones because of the overall quality the horn brings to my playing. From the customization options of my trombone, the consistent fluidity of the slide, and the ease of playing throughout the partials, there is no trombone I’d rather play on.”
