Michael Rath Trombones are very proud and excited to welcome Nicholas Lord to the Rath Pack

Nic Lord

I came across Rath Trombones when I first started brass banding. I was blown away with its overall appearance, feel and tone. From day one of deciding to go ahead and purchase a Rath, the process was so easy from choosing what setup I wanted, the metals I wanted to use and finally to receiving my horn where I began to produce the most incredible sound… I’m one very happy and proud Rath owner!” Nicholas Lord – Rath Trombones Artist.

Nicholas Lord is a Tenor Trombonist in his first year studying for Bachelor of Music at the Griffith Conservatorium of Music in Queensland Australia. He has an impressive list of accomplishments despite his age.

He started playing at the age of 8 and quickly became very proficient and showed a mastery of his chosen instrument.   Nicholas started competing in State Music competitions in Tasmania winning his first Junior Brass Competition at age 10, this gave him a boost and from there his skills on the trombone grew exponentially.

In 2018 Nicholas won the Australian Junior Trombone Champion and placed in the top 5 in the Australian Senior Trombone section at age 13, he also took out the Tasmanian Senior Trombone Champion. Nicholas become a “Derwent Valley Music Scholarship Recipient” in 2019 also taking out both junior and senior Trombone Champion and the momentous effort of winning the “Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Aviva Scholarship for Orchestral Brass” scholarship under the dedicated teaching of David Robins who is the 1st Trombonist of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

The next couple years were obviously challenging due to the lockdowns, with the lack of ensembles being able to get together and rehearse, Nicholas took the opportunity to refine his solo trombone skills even more with the help of his teacher Mr Monte Mumford.  Nicholas competed once again in the Tasmanian music competitions and again took out the State “Senior Champion for Tenor Trombone”.

Nicholas also worked with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra on multiple occasions throughout 2020/2021.  Nicholas attended Launceston College and was awarded the “Music 3”, “University of Tasmania Tech” and “Acknowledged for Performing Arts College Service” awards for 2021.

In his final year in Launceston, Nicholas played lead trombone in the Pit Orchestra for Launceston’s ENCORE THEATRE production of “CHICAGO”, he was also awarded his AMUSA for Tenor Trombone, performed lead Trombone in the performance of “ELF” the Musical under Launceston Musical Society.  He was also the recipient of The “Mary Woolhouse” award for “Music Excellence” at Launceston College for 2021 and 2022.

Nicholas is proud to play Michael Rath Brass Instruments.
